If Mr. Zubir Said were still alive, he'd be 107 today.
To commemorate, Google.sg has put up an illustration paying tribute to the highly respected musician and creator of the Singapore national anthem "Majulah Singapura" (Onward Singapore) on its search homepage. "Majulah Singapura" was put together in 1958 when Singapore was still a British colony and was first performed at the first official reopening of the Victoria Theatre.
On Aug. 9, 1965, the day Singapore gained full independence, "Majulah Singapura" was formally adopted as the official national anthem.
Those who went through their early stages of education in Singapore might also be familiar with "Semoga Bahagia" (May You Achieve Happiness), a song Zubir wrote that is played on Children's Day every year until today.
