The youth division of Malaysia's largest political party UMNO has spoken up in response to Singapore's decision to increase the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) and Goods Vehicle Permit (GVP) fees for vehicles entering the city.
According to a Bernama report, UMNO Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin believes Singapore should be reducing, not increasing the permit fees from $20 to $35 because as it is now the republic is not being charged any fees for entering Malaysia, nor is it taking action against road users that don't settle their traffic summonses.
He said this after chairing an UMNO Youth exco meeting on Jul. 15, adding that Malaysia should also collect revenue from Singapore cars.
Khairy also proposes that the Malaysian government study a system that would prevent cars that fail to settle their summons from entering the country.
