Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs Masagos Zulkifli spoke to Suria on TV on Jul. 13 about the local community's reaction to the crossfire between Israel and Palestine.
He said the Muslims in Singapore are saddened over the destruction and lives lost in Gaza, but urge them not to engage in any irrational activities such as travelling to the location and participating in the cause.
He compared the situation to that in Syria, where Singaporeans are believed to have been fighting — when they return, so will the threat of terrorism.
Mr. Masagos advises the community to pray for peace instead, for all Muslims and the world, and to give financial aid via accredited institutions such as the Red Cross.
