It's full steam ahead for members of the local community dismayed with the decision of the National Library Board (NLB) to pulp three children's books it believes to be 'anti-family'.
Two mothers organised a mass reading of books like And Tango Makes Three and Who's in the Family? yesterday, at about the same time an online letter protesting NLB's move — meant to be delivered to the local authorities — garnered about 26,000 signatures.
Today, we discovered a Pozible project raising funds to start a children's section at the Pelangi Pride Centre library.
Called The Penguin and Swan Collection, the section will stock books featuring unconventional family structures, including My Father's Arms are a Boat, King and King, a well as the titles banned by NLB. The full book selection here.
The project by Culture Kitchen and The Gyanada Project founder Adrianna Tan, has raised about $700 of its $1,500 target, which will be used to buy two copies of each book on the list. It expires Jul. 24.
