Motorcyclists will be paying per minute parking charges at carparks installed with the Electronic Parking System (EPS) from tomorrow, Jul. 1.
This follows Minister for National Development Khaw Boon Wan's Budget Debate announcement, and is confirmed via a joint statement released today by the Housing Development Board (HDB) and the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA).
The move is supposedly made in aid of motorcyclists who use multiple carparks in a day, such as despatch and delivery riders.
They currently pay $0.65 every time they enter a different carpark regardless of the actual parking duration. Imposing the EPS means they only need to pay for the duration parked, at a rate of $0.20 per hour, charged on per minute basis.
The new system will be implemented at more than 500 HDB and URA carparks installed with EPS.
