![SAF investigates faux depressed recruit]()
The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) have confirmed that an unidentified army personnel has attempted to evade National Service by pretending to suffer from clinical depresssion, a story first heard on citizen journ platform SAF Confessions.
In a statement released on Facebook, the SAF reveals the recruit had gotten the authorities to discharge him under false pretences, condemning him for "undermining the system" and making it more difficult for enlistees with genuine psychological issues in the future.
According to Channel NewsAsia, the man had obtained medical certificates by lying about his condition, and had visited the Institute of Mental Health regularly a year prior to his enlistment.
In the same post, the SAF said that it "will continue to uphold the principles of universality, equity and critical need".
The matter is currently being investigated.
