Already a familiar sight in most cities in Europe, Renault's new two-seater, zero-emissions vehicle Twizy, has left the Land Transport Authority (LTA) a little stumped as to its classification.
According to Channel NewsAsia, LTA said in a statement that the vehicle did not fall within the classification of motorcycles that Renault had applied for. However, in response to LTA's queries, a spokeswoman for Wearnes Automobile said that in its application, it had made Twizy out to be a car and not a motorcycle.
The LTA has asked Renault Singapore to provide further information on the vehicle in order for it to make its decision, while distributor Wearnes says that it is open to reviewing the duties and taxes applicable with the authorities.
Twizy has a top speed of 80kph and a wee 17-horsepower engine, and weighs 450kg (under current classifications, motorcycles should not weight more than 400kg).
