The Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) training has proven to be a positive influence on both employers and their employees, according to the Workforce Development Agency's (WDA) 2013 Outcomes Evaluation Survey (OES).
According to Channel NewsAsia, 77 percent of 1,480 companies in the survey reported an increase in work productivity after their employees were sent for WSQ training — which includes picking up extra skills to perform new job functions and prepare for higher level jobs — in 2013, compared to 74 percent in 2012.
70 percent of companies also said the training helped them improve the quality of their products — a four percent hike from 2012 — while 56 percent enjoyed a spike in sales and profitability in 2013, from 48 percent the previous year.
As for the employees, the OES revealed that 83 percent out of 8,270 respondents said the training was useful — up from 81 percent in 2012 — with an overwhelming 97 percent claiming they could apply the new skills learnt at the workplace, compared to 94 percent in the annual survey’s previous edition.
A 92 percent found themselves to be more effective and efficient at work after undergoing WSQ training in 2012 — this figure went up to 95 percent last year.
