Singapore's first three Smart Work Centres, located in Geyland East Public Library, Jurong Regional Library and Toa Payoh Public Library, are now open.
These alternative work spaces — a collaboration between the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), the National Library Board (NLB and business development company Regus — are fitted with professional facilities such as high speed internet access and high definition video conferencing, and aim to bring work closer to home for potential employers and employees.
Their locations mean they're easily accessible to the public — a key element for those looking to enhance their productivity with flexible working arrangements, such as homemakers.
"At IDA, we are constantly looking at different ways to help grow Singapore-based companies. The Smart Work Centre initiative is one of the innovative ways to support work needs by providing professional office facilities closer to homes. This is useful for large enterprises as well as small tech start ups, and also helps with talent attraction and retention with a more engaged workforce," said Mr Steve Leonard, Executive Deputy Chairman, IDA.
Mrs Elaine Ng, Chief Executive Officer, National Library Board, said, "Our libraries are already frequented by people from all walks of life. The addition of new business facilities gives people the option to work in an environment that combines lifelong learning with work-life balance."
