About Do Good Friday: Making time for some give-back in the coming week, but don't know what to do? Break out of your usual TGIF 'eureka' moment every once in awhile to check what's buzzing in the local charity scene on our new series, launched May 2014.
The situation: The Soup Kitchen Project Singapore's mission is simple — to feed the needy and the poor who call the vincinity of Jalan Besar and Lavender Road their home. This volunteer-run non-profit soup kitchen was started by the same guys behind independent cultural and social enterprise Post-Museum. The soup kitchen's primary target are those living in one-bedroom flats, cardboard and can collectors, as well as Sungei Road vendors and the homeless.
The activity: Happening every Monday, volunteers are needed to cut, chop, cook, package and deliver ready-to-eat meals. No kitchen experience is required as there will be volunteer chefs on hand to tell you what to do. If you want to be a volunteer, please contact Tay Shi Ying — volunteer coordinator via SMS at 9842-3287. The pop-up kitchen is located at New Fut Kai, 282 Jalan Besar, if you are scheduled to volunteer but cannot find the location, please call Tien at 9238-6609.
