Constantly extending its reach to new niche destinations across Asia, SilkAir will be adding flights to two very different but equally exciting locations in the next month.
First up on May 27, the airline will commence a thrice-weekly service to Kalibo, the gateway to the island paradise that is Boracay. The capital of Aklan provice, Kalibo also hosts the famed Ati-Atihan Festival each January which honours the Infant Jesus and celebrates the area's rich indigenous culture.
There are two options for flights to Kalibo with both circular routes transiting in Cebu. MI599 departs Singapore on Tuesdays and Sundays direct to Kalibo and returns via Cebu. MI577, which departs on Thursdays, goes Singapore – Cebu – Kalibo before returning direct to Singapore. Direct flights between Singapore and Kalibo take about 3 hours and 40 minutes while flights with a stop in Cebu take just over five hours. Return fares start at $306.80.
Next, on June 10, SilkAir will begin operating a thrice-weekly route to Mandalay, Myanmar's second-largest city and the country's last royal capital. The subject of many songs and literary works, Mandalay remains centred on the Royal Palace with significant temples, pagodas and monasteries scattered around its sprawl.
MI533 leaves on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, flying Singapore – Yangon – Mandalay – Singapore. The outbound flight takes about five hours with the return clocking in at three and a half hours. Myanmar is in the UTC+6:30 time zone. Return flights are available from $406.60.
