Minister for Social and Family Development Chan Chun Sing seems to have responded to investment bank Goldman Sach's latest recruitment initiative in Singapore intended for the (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) LGBT community.
On May 2, the Minister wrote, "A number of Singaporeans read a recent newspaper article on the recruitment practice of a multinational company here, and asked for my views..."
The post is believed to be targeted at Goldman Sachs, who is organising a recruitment and networking dinner on May 18 for LGBT students.
In Goldman Sachs' ad for the event, the company also pushed forward all its contributions to the community, including its sponsorship of the Pink Dot event in June.
Said Mr. Chan, "Singapore is a largely conservative society. While different groups may express their different points of view, everyone should respect the sensitivities of others and not create division".
He also iterated that "Singapore and Singaporeans will decide on the norms for our society" and that "foreign companies here should respect local culture and context".
Mr. Chan urged the abovementioned companies not to "venture into public advocacy for causes that sow discord amongst Singaporeans".
