The Singapore police has warned Gilbert Goh, founder of unemployment support site Transitioning.org and unofficial resident protest organiser, against defacing a poster of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at his Labour Day event happening later today.
Goh had posted via Facebook on April 19, a message inviting attendees of his 'Labour Day protest' themed "Protect the Singaporean Workers" to "spit, throw eggs, splash dog poo, draw graffiti (on) and kick at" a "huge poster" of the PM he would be preparing.
Police say that they contacted Goh yesterday to advise him against "carrying out such activities during the demonstration as they may constitute offences under the Penal Code and the Miscellaneous Offences (Public Order and Nuisance) Act". Goh was also told to "remove any online postings that called on participants of his demonstration to conduct activities that might be against the law".
The post is no longer available for viewing.
Goh's response to the requests was a mere, "Which PM in the world invites others to take over his own country?"
Last year's 'Labour Day protest' also organised by Transitioning.org saw some 4,000 participants discussing the country's labour policies, which have been described as "pro-foreigner". See what this year's event, also held at Hong Lim Park, will be about:
