Two Singapore entries have made it to this year's list of The World's 50 Best Restaurants, Restaurant Andre and Waku Ghin.
Moving up one stop from last year to no. 37, the Southern French diner located on Bukit Pasoh Road is lauded for its use of 'octaphilosophy', chef André Chiang's way of describing the key characteristics of his gastronomy. Restaurant Andre is also distinct in it use of ingredients and wines from little-known, artisanal producers, and is said to offer "sophisticated and engaging service".
The only Marina Bay Sands restaurant to have made it on Restaurant magazine's list is Waku Ghin, helmed by Japanese-born Australia-trained chef Tetsuya Wakuda. Tetsuya in Sydney used to be a regular on The World's 50 Best list, but Chef has been spending more time in his Singapore restaurant, where he offers seasonal, eight-course degustation menus.
Entered on the list for the ninth time is Denmark's Noma, which cops the top spot this year thanks to its ingenius use of local produce and well, renewed vigour on the part chef-owner René Redzepi, after losing to Nahm last year. Incidentally, David Thompson's Bangkok restaurant has dropped to no. 11.
The World's 50 Best Restaurants list was put together by The Diners Club World's 50 Best Restaurants Academy made up of over 900 international industry experts.
