A huge shipment of drugs might have found its way into Singapore and Indonesia, but thanks to Malaysia's elite Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING), they were seized even before it was packed up.

The RM8.1 million shipment of drugs were seized from a house in Taman Pelangi, reports New Straits Times, believed to be a mini drug lab of sorts. 58kg of powdered ecstasy, 5,290 ecstasy pills and 1kg of syabu were found.

Also seized were air rifles, air pistols, drug-making equipment and chemical products used to manufacture the drugs, said Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigations Department director Datuk Seri Mokhtar Shariff.

A scare about sweet potatoes from Vietnam purportedly turning green when steamed due to the wartime Agent Orange herbicide is righteously shut down by the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA).

A Facebook post had been spreading around online about the peculiar tinge, claiming that you shouldn't eat Vietnam produce because Agent Orange "is deeply rooted in their soil". The herbicide was used during the Vietnam War by American forces — meant to destroy bushes, trees and vegetation.

An SMRT taxi, a Nissan car and a Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) ambulance collided at the junction of Bukit Batok Road and Brickland Road yesterday morning, leaving six people injured.

Unfortunately, the SCDF personnel were not able to self-medicate — four of the ambulance crew were also injured during the crash. They were responding to a medical case at the time of the accident.

The New Paper reports that the two other injured were from the Nissan car, one of whom was extricated from the wreck by SCDF officers.

All six injured were conveyed to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital in stable condition. The tables were turned for injured ambulance crew, for it was them who needed the medical ministrations this time.

The ulu Mandai Avenue sees a lot of traffic involving heavy vehicles; mostly trailer trucks and other big wheelers. An SMRT bus however collided into an especially huge one yesterday: a Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) vehicle with a Foldable Longspan Bridge.

TODAY reports that six bus passengers were injured in the accident, and SMRT have been providing assistance to them.

The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) issued a press statement saying that safety is the top priority for them, but did not mention if any of their personnel were injured.

In the many ways one can wake up from slumber, this would count as the worst one. A 20-year-old Chinese national is believed to have hit her head after falling from a double deck bed and died from the injury.

Lianhe Wanbao reports that the young woman from Qingdao, China had come to work in Singapore around two years ago. She and three other colleagues from the United Test and Assembly Centre had rented a flat in Hougang — and it was her flatmates who found her lying motionless on the floor last Thursday evening.

Police and paramedics arrived promptly after the alert was made, and the woman was pronounced dead on the scene. Investigations are still ongoing for this peculiar case of death.

Two handphones, a can of spray paint, a bottle of lighter fluid, a bicycle lock as well as several marker pens were seized as case exhibits.

If convicted, they'll face up to five years in jail, a maximum fine of $50,000 and even up to 6 strokes of the cane.

The homophobic Facebook group We are against Pinkdot in Singapore has been a treasure trove for ridiculous complaints and whimpers in the past, and it seems that 2016 has brought some fresh spirit to its members.

One supremely conservative member of the group has had enough of all the sin that's taking its toll on Singapore. As such, she took it upon herself to summarise all the reasons the country is rotting fast in a wonderful collage she made herself. Here, have a laugh:

Mosquito

Beware them mosquitoes — the National Environment Agency (NEA) has warned that it's likely that dengue cases will spike up as the weather starts to heat up into the usual Singapore sweat-staining standards.

The warmer-than-usual weather supports faster breeding and maturation cycles of mosquitoes, which explain the increase in the Aedes mosquito population. The incubation periods for the dengue virus are also reduced with the hotter weather too.

NEA's latest figures have shown a total of 554 reported cases just the week ending Jan 9, Channel NewsAsia reports, which was said to be 96 more than the previous week.

With all the rage and fury of a thousand suns over a possible decision to make Singapore's teachers pay for parking at schools, the Ministry of Education (MOE) are taking extra care and time in their review.

The hubbub started when news came out that MOE will be reviewing carpark fees for schools, where already overworked teachers might face mandatory charges if they want to drive to work. Currently, parking remains free at most primary and secondary schools and junior colleges, while almost all public service organisations charge normally for parking at their premises.

Goh and Bowie

More stories of the late great David Bowie and his fondness for Singapore. Filmmaker Kagan Goh — the son of late cultural medallist Goh Poh Seng —recounted on Facebook about Bowie's special relationship with his dad, who risked everything to bring the icon here.

In case you don't know who Goh Poh Seng is, he was a bonafide Renaissance man. A doctor as well as a businessman, dramatist, novelist and poet, he was a major figure of cultural aspiration for Singaporeans, and that culminated when he received a Cultural Medallion in 1982 for his contributions to literature. He struggled from Parkinson's Diseases in his later years and passed away in Vancouver, Canada on Jan 10, 2010.
